We’ve landed in Bangkok, Thailand, and before heading north to Chiang Mai to ride the famous Chiang Mai Loop, we’ve got just 24 hours in the city to explore. We start early at the Grand Palace, arriving at opening time before the heat and crowds really build. From there, it’s straight into the reality of Bangkok life — Grab motorcycle taxis, chaotic traffic, and crossing roads that feel more like an extreme sport than a daily routine. At one point, things go slightly wrong. Amy and I both jump on separate motorcycle taxis… only to end up at completely different places across the city. Losing each other in Bangkok wasn’t exactly the plan, but it definitely added to the adventure. We head into the backstreets of Chinatown, where some people say the best food in Bangkok is found. Tight, congested market streets, incredible smells, and a mission to find flip-flops all add to the experience. Bangkok has changed. Cannabis shops are everywhere, yet strangely vaping is illegal — one of the many contradictions that make Thailand so fascinating. And hidden away in the same complex, we even stumble across a handful of classic motorcycles, which was great to see. This video is our first taste of Thailand before the real adventure begins. This was my first ever rally moto challenge – the Icebreaker in Wales – and I couldn’t have picked a tougher introduction. I was riding my KTM 390 Adventure R during Storm Chanda, which meant relentless rain, flooded lanes, deep water crossings and constantly changing conditions. Navigation, line choice and simply keeping the bike moving quickly became the priority. About ten minutes into the ride, the storm did what storms do best and water got into my camera, meaning I lost the onboard audio for the rest of the event. The footage survived though, so I’ve added voiceover to explain what was happening and what I was dealing with as the day went on. This wasn’t about speed or being competitive — it was about patience, focus and adapting when things didn’t go to plan. For a first rally moto challenge, it was a massive learning curve and a proper eye-opener into what rally riding is really like. Sometimes riding on the worst day reminds you why you do this in the first place… and if you can get through days like this, it can only get better. Is the KTM 390 Adventure R actually any good for a pillion? In this video, me and Amy head out on the KTM 390 Adventure R for a relaxed ride to find out what it’s really like for a passenger on the back — and it’s Amy’s first time ever riding pillion on this bike. We’re not chasing specs or riding flat-out, this is a real-world test. Comfort, space, confidence, suspension, braking and whether this small-capacity adventure bike actually works when you’ve got someone on the back. To make it a proper ride, we also head over to Rutland Water, taking in some of the views and enjoying the kind of roads this bike is actually designed for — flowing countryside, slower riding, and time to chat about how it feels from both seats.
